This March, we honor the women of Croton whose creativity and vision have shaped our cultural landscape. From groundbreaking artists of the past to the women in our own community who continue to inspire through their work, we celebrate their impact and their stories.
We invite you to join us in recognizing the artists, organizers, businesses and creators who make our community more vibrant, connected, and imaginative.
For your convenience we have attached (see below) a poster for you to download and print for easy reference to each of our events.

March Events

We invite you to mark your calendars and take part in our celebration!!

Our World’s Creative Women
This March, Croton Council on the Arts is inaugurating a month-long series of events to celebrate the past, present and future women of Croton. The programs of Our World’s Creative Women explore and honor the myriad achievements and talents of women of Croton and beyond through exhibitions, concerts, a theatrical performance and an expert workshop. We are thrilled that Croton businesses are participating in our celebration by displaying our historic posters throughout their shops.
Our World’s Creative Women is the brainchild of organizing committee members Carla Dago, Valerie Leis, Jane Parkhouse and Kathleen Walkup. Please scroll down to see the exhibitions, concerts and programs that are all part of the celebration.
First up, a reception for A Woman’s View: A Student Art Exhibition at the Black Cow Coffee Co (4 Old Post Rd S, Croton-On-Hudson) on Thursday, March 5th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm. It's an art exhibition organized by CHHS’s Women’s Empowerment Club. Don’t miss it!

Historic Croton Women

March 1 – March 31
A central project of Women’s History Month is the installation of thirty posters in businesses across the Village honoring the many Croton women who have brought art, activism and scientific innovation to the national and international stages over the past 100 or more years. Each of these posters highlights women like activist Crystal Eastman, whose short life was dedicated to women’s suffrage and, as co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union, basic human rights; or Bettie Esther Parham, an entrepreneur whose cosmetics designed specifically for Black women were the first marketed both in the U.S. and in Africa.
Croton Girl Scout troops have created a scavenger hunt of questions about each of the thirty women so that kids (and their parents) can roam across the village to answer questions and become eligible for raffle prizes from Croton businesses.

Croton has a long and continuing tradition of being a magnet for artists of all disciplines. The Croton Council on the Arts was born and grew out of this tradition and Croton’s 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. Local artists and supporters joined forces to stage events for the public in Croton and surrounding villages. Under poet and President Ruth Lisa Schechter’s dynamic leadership, the new council organized many productions in theater and dance, exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, and musical recitals and poetry readings. The Croton Review, a literary magazine, was published annually in the 1980s. Croton residents greeted these contributions to our Village with great enthusiasm and CCoA quickly became a valuable asset in the cultural life of our community.
CCoA is in constant need of volunteers to help us run our activities, and come up with new ones. It's also a great way to network and enhance your sense of community. CLICK HERE to send email to us if you have questions or want to get involved with CCoA activities.
